7th-level Enchantment

Components: V, S, M (a pinch of ground sapphire and a drop of ink)
Duration: Until triggered (or 24 hours, whichever is longer)
You enchant an object, embedding it with a mental projection of a map. This map can depict a real location the caster has personally seen, a location described in detail by another, or a cartographic representation drawn by the caster. The object holds the spell until it is activated by a predetermined trigger set by the caster at the time of casting. The trigger can be a spoken phrase, a specific gesture, or physical contact with the object.
When activated, the user’s mind is flooded with a vivid, near-perfect mental map of the chosen location, complete with landmarks, pathways, and notable terrain features. The knowledge granted by the spell is so precise that the recipient gains advantage on Survival checks made to navigate the area and can instinctively sense discrepancies in their surroundings.
Additional Effects:
- While within the mapped area, the recipient may make an Investigation check with advantage to determine if an illusion or hallucinatory effect (such as hallucinatory terrain or mirage arcane) is present. This does not automatically reveal the illusion, only that something is unnatural.
- The spell does not update in real-time, meaning changes to the terrain after the map’s creation are not reflected.
- The mental image fades after 1 hour, though any notes or sketches the user makes during this time persist.
Once the spell is activated, the enchantment fades from the object, though the caster can recast it to reapply the effect.
At Higher Levels.
- 8th Level: The mental map lasts for 8 hours instead of 1 hour.
- 9th Level: The mental map lasts for 8 hours, and the recipient gains truesight out to 60 feet while navigating the mapped area.
