Hecatomb's Contract
Hecatomb's Contract
Legendary Ring (requires attunement)
Forged in the fires of infernal contracts and bound by the threads of dark magic, Hecatomb's Contract holds both the promise of power and the specter of doom, a testament to the perilous dance with forbidden knowledge. Carved into the band of the ring is the phrase: "The blood of one saves themselves, the death of one saves everyone," written in infernal script. At the apex of the ring rests a clear gem, pulsating with the essence of blood sacrificed to the ring. When filled with blood, small lightning storms form within the gem, crackling with arcane energy. A devil's tongue, intricately carved, wraps around the gem as if swallowing it, adding to the sinister aura of the artifact.
- Terms of the Deal. In exchange for a sacrifice of vitality, the wearer may cast any spells from the illusionary school of magic as an action or, at the cost of double the vitality, a bonus action.
- To cast a spell using the ring, the wearer must sacrifice hit points equal to 1d10 + the spell’s level being cast.
- The ring can only be used once per round, but there is no limit to the number of rounds the ring can be used, as long as the wearer has sufficient hit points to sacrifice.
- If the wearer falls to 0 hit points, they have two options:
- Lose one death saving throw, after which continue making death saves as normal.
- Make the Ultimate Sacrifice. Automatically fail all death saving throws and explode in a ball of arcane energy, all creatures within 200 feet must succeed on three death saving throws or die instantly. On a successful save, the creature is stabilized. After death, their corpse then becomes cursed. While the curse is active on the corpse they cannot be revived by any means, magical or otherwise.
- Cursed. Once the ring is worn it cannot be removed without breaking the contract. If the wearer breaks the contract, their soul, and the souls of their lineage, are forfeit to the planes of Perdition as compensation. In life, their body suffers permanent exhaustion.
