Revelation Domain (Not Playtested)
I think I'm just going to end up making new subclasses for every class at this point. As I write the lore for the Westmarch campaign, I keep thinking up new subclasses. I probably could reflavor an Order Domain cleric, but it just didn't quite match up to what I wanted, plus it hasn't been ported over to 2024. This technically could be considered a remake/reimagining of the Order Domain, I guess, as a lot of that domain was added to the base cleric class. However, Order really focuses on commanding and charming targets, while this is more focused on the ability to find, track, and see the hidden. It's almost a good substitute for a cleric psionic class. But I digress, I originally got the idea from watching Trigun, which led me to Firefly, which led me to Preacher (the show based on he comic) & Constantine. Most of this subclass was inspired by Preacher.
Revelation Domain
“The words of man are but lies that are revealed by the words of God and the light of my faith.”
In a world clouded by deceit and shadows, the Revelation cleric walks in the light of divine truth. Their words are not mere speech—they are tools of revelation, cutting through the veil of lies and uncovering what the world would prefer remain hidden.
Through the power of faith, these clerics reveal what others cannot see. They expose the wicked for their evil, bring clarity to the confused, and persuade even the most doubtful by showing them the undeniable truth. With their divine insight, they can peer into hearts, read hidden intentions, and force evil to face its consequences.
When they speak, the world is laid bare. Nothing remains concealed.
Domain of Revelation Spells
Your connection to this divine domain ensures you always have certain spells ready. When you reach a Cleric level specified in the Revelation Domain Spells table, you thereafter always have the listed spells prepared.
| Cleric Level | Spells |
|---|---|
| 3 | Comprehend Languages (Rit.), Detect Thoughts, Suggestion, Zone of Truth |
| 5 | Counterspell, Dispel Magic |
| 7 | Divination, Freedom of Movement |
| 9 | Dispel Evil and Good, Geas |
Blessings of the Revelation (3rd Level)
Your speech carries truth of your faith. You gain proficiency in the Performance skill; if you already have it, you instead gain expertise. You also learn one cantrip from the bard spell list, which counts as a cleric cantrip for you.
Words of Revelation (3rd Level)
As a Magic action, you present your Holy Symbol and expend a use of your Channel Divinity to spread the words of your faith to a creature within your vision and of whom you know their true name. They must succeed on a Wisdom saving throw or become bonded to you in holy spirit for 1 minute. While bonded in faith, the target creature can’t knowingly lie or obscure the truth from you, but may refuse to answer if a response would put them or a loved one in immediate danger. The bond ends early if you ask three questions, or if either you or the creature becomes incapacitated.
While bonded, if the creature is reduced to 0 hit points, you can choose to sacrifice hit points equal to your cleric level to prevent their death and restore that amount of hit points instead.
Book of Revelation (6th Level)
You are entrusted with a holy book representing your devotion to lead lost sheep. As a bonus action, you can write the true name of a creature you know into the Book of Revelation. While the name remains in the book, you always know the creature’s exact location, as long as it is on the same plane of existence.
You can use your Channel Divinity to force the creature to make a Wisdom saving throw. On a failed save, for 1 minute, you can:
- See and hear through the creature’s senses.
- Understand the creature’s speech, even if you do not share a language.
- Speak the the creature, using the creature’s voice, and issue a single command, which it feels compelled to obey. This command cannot knowingly cause harm to the creature or its loved ones.
- This effect ends early if the command is carried out, the duration ends, or if you or the creature becomes incapacitated. Once the effect ends, the creature is aware of the intrusion into their mind and the name is erased from the book. Their name cannot be written in the book again for 24 hours. On a successful save, you gain no additional benefits and the name is still erased.
Witness the Final Revelation (17th Level)
As proof of your words and devotion, you are able to summon a godly witness to the revelation. When you cast summon celestial, you do so without material components and without requiring concentration, though its duration becomes 1 minute. The summoned celestial manifests with both the Avenger and Defender traits, when summoned using this feature.
While the celestial spirit is within 30 feet of you:
- You gain truesight out to 15 feet.
- When it grants temporary hit points to a creature other than yourself with its Radiant Mace, you also gain that amount.
- As a bonus action, you can share your blessed sight with a creature you can see, granting it truesight (15 feet) until the end of its next turn.
- As a reaction, when you would take damage, you can cause the celestial to teleport to your side and take the damage instead.
The summon lasts until the completion of it’s duration, but ends early should you or the celestial spirit fall incapacitated.
